Program Overview
Hosted by Humboldt-Universität Berlin and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), SLE Postgraduate Programme is 12-month trainee program. It is a premier launchpad for graduates aiming for a career in international development. It combines advanced theory with a three-month Joint International Research Project (JIRP) in a partner country.
Transparency on Financial Coverage
This program is fully funded for the 20 selected participants, offering:
- Monthly Stipend: A scholarship of €1,300 per month from January to December.
- Family Support: A children’s allowance of €102.26 for the first child and €51.13 for each additional child.
- Project Costs: All expenses related to the international field research phase are covered.
- Note on Extra Costs: Expect to pay a standard semester enrollment fee (approx. €240), which provides a nationwide German transport pass. You are generally responsible for your own visa fees and initial travel to Berlin.
Eligibility & Requirements
- Degree: You must hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) that qualifies you for PhD admission.
- Citizenship: Open to citizens of EU countries or DAC-listed developing and transition countries.
- Languages: Professional fluency in English (C1) is mandatory; knowledge of German, French, or Spanish is a strong advantage.
- Health: Must be medically fit for fieldwork in diverse global environments.
