For young professionals looking to break into the elite world of global governance, the European Union Delegation to the United Nations in Geneva has officially opened its doors for the Fall 2026 intake. This highly competitive program places young graduates directly into the engine room of international diplomacy, working alongside the UN, WHO, WTO, and world-class NGOs.
Selected trainees will spend 3 to 6 months completely integrated into one of six specialized diplomatic sections.
Available Functional Sections
- Human Rights Section
- Economic Affairs, Development, Environment, and Digital Section
- Social Affairs and Labour Section
- Health Section
- Head of Delegation (HOD) Section
- Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Section
The “Funded” Package vs. Real-World Costs
The EU provides a monthly stipend designed to act as a grant toward local living expenses. However, applicants must structure their budgets carefully.
The delegation does not provide housing, nor does it subsidize relocation, flights, or Swiss visa permits. Furthermore, selected candidates must independently finance and prove comprehensive health, accident, and repatriation insurance coverage before their start date. Because Geneva is consistently ranked as one of the most expensive cities in the world, the stipend serves to offset, rather than fully cover, your total overhead.
Core Eligibility Benchmarks
- Academic Minimum: You must hold a Master’s Degree (MA) or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., International Relations, European Studies, Public Health, or International Law). Candidates without a completed Master’s are strictly ineligible.
- Experience Limit: Open exclusively to young graduates with less than 1 year of professional experience post-graduation.
- Language Skills: Flawless written and spoken English is mandatory. A working knowledge of French is considered a massive competitive asset in Geneva.
- Prior EU Rules: Anyone who has previously worked or interned within an EU institution for more than 6 weeks is automatically disqualified.
Exact Dates & Deadlines
- Application Hard Cutoff: 31 May 2026 (Late submissions are automatically rejected).
- Tentative Start Window: September / October 2026 (Disarmament begins November 2026).
- Duration: 3 to 6 Months.
Formatting Rule: You can only apply to one section per delegation cycle. Your submission email must include an official application form, a 1-page motivation letter, and a 2-page CV formatted strictly in the Europass layout. Omitting any of these or sending separate files will result in immediate disqualification.
