What Funding Does a16z Speedrun Provide?

Accepted companies can receive up to $1 million under a standard investment structure:

  • $500,000 for 10% equity upfront through a SAFE
  • Another $500,000 in the company’s next qualified financing round within 18 months

a16z also provides participating companies with access to $10M+ worth of cloud, AI and software credits through its partner network.

What Does the Accelerator Provide?

Beyond capital, Speedrun provides hands-on support across:

  • Product development
  • Customer acquisition
  • Go-to-market strategy
  • Fundraising
  • Marketing
  • Recruiting
  • Business development
  • Company building
  • Visa and relocation support for international founders

The 12-week programme culminates in a Demo Day, where selected founders present their companies to investors.

Can International Founders Apply?

Yes.

a16z explicitly states that founders from around the world are welcome to apply. Its Global Founders Program provides additional support with U.S. visas, relocation, housing, banking and immigration guidance.

What Does a16z Look For?

The application focuses heavily on the founders and the startup itself.

Applicants are asked about:

  • Founder experience
  • Technical ability
  • Startup stage
  • Product and problem being solved
  • Startup category
  • Where the company will be built
  • Traction
  • Funding history
  • Pitch deck and other supporting information

The current application specifically asks whether the founders are technical enough to build the product end-to-end.

Important Funding Terms

The initial $500,000 investment is exchanged for 10% equity through a SAFE, and a16z also receives a pro-rata right to participate in subsequent financing rounds. There is no board seat under the standard deal.

So applicants should understand that accepting the funding involves equity dilution and future investor rights.
