What Is the CIEL Legal Internship?
CIEL works at the intersection of environmental law, climate change and human rights.

U.S. Track
Full-time interns receive approximately $2,600 per month, with the amount prorated for part-time schedules.
The U.S. position can be performed remotely, but applicants must physically reside in the United States.
Geneva Track
The Geneva track provides approximately CHF 2,660 per month for full-time interns.
The applicable schedule and duration differ from the U.S. track.
Who Can Apply?
The internship is aimed at law students and recent law graduates.
You generally need to be:
- Currently enrolled in a graduate programme leading to a legal degree, such as a J.D., LL.M. or equivalent, or
- A recent graduate of such a programme
Important for International Applicants
If you’re applying from outside the United States, don’t assume the U.S. remote option means you can work remotely from anywhere.
The U.S. track requires you to physically reside in the United States and have legal work authorization.
