The AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellowship is one of the most respected pathways for US scientists and engineers to directly shape federal policy. Fellows are placed inside executive-branch agencies, congressional offices, and federal departments across Washington DC, where they serve as scientific advisors and technical experts for a full policy year.

This fellowship is open to US citizens only (dual citizenship accepted; permanent residents are not eligible) and is completely free to apply.

What Is This Opportunity?

The AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellowship (STPF) has placed scientists, engineers, and other technical experts inside the US federal government for more than 50 years. Fellows spend a full policy year embedded in federal agencies — from the Department of State to NASA, the Department of Energy, the National Institutes of Health, and congressional offices — contributing their expertise to real policy decisions and gaining first-hand experience of how science and government work together.

Who Can Apply?
