Royal Society Entrepreneur

Royal Society Entrepreneur in Residence 2026 (UK)

Royal Society Entrepreneur is specialized funding scheme by the UK’s National Academy of Sciences that pays experienced industry professionals, scientists, and founders to spend 20% of their time (1 day a week) working with a UK university to bridge academia and business.

Any Catch or Hidden Charges: Royal Society Entrepreneur?

  • No Application Fee: Completely free to apply.
  • The Structural Funding Rule: The grant pays up to £50,000 total over 2 years (£25,000 per year). It covers up to £20,000/year toward your basic salary contribution and up to £5,000/year for project travel, workshops, and accommodation.
  • The “Hidden” Catch: This is not a full-time job or standard living stipend. Your main employer must agree to this 20% secondment (sharing your time), and they are legally required to keep paying your national insurance, benefits, and pension out of their own pocket.

Strict Eligibility & Career Level Criteria

  • Can International People Apply? Yes, it is open to any nationality globally. However, there is a major visa limitation: you must already possess the legal right to work in the UK for the two-year duration of the award. The Royal Society does not provide automated visa sponsorship or pay for immigration routes for overseas candidates.
  • Who Can Apply (Degree & Experience Level)? This is not for undergraduate or master’s students. Applicants must have a solid background in Science or Engineering (excluding clinical medicine), paired with significant industrial research experience, corporate-academic collaboration, or a track record of founding/scaling a deep-tech company.
  • Age Limits: No specific minimum or maximum age limits—it is strictly determined by your professional seniority and industry track record.

  • Applications Opened: June 3, 2026
  • Application Deadline: August 19, 2026 (15:00 UK Time)
  • Results Announced: November 2026
  • Residency Commences: Between January 1 and March 31, 2027
