Overview
EMMIR stands for the European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations. Edition 14 starts on 1 September 2027. Applications opened in October 2026 and the scholarship round closes on 20 December 2026 at 23:59 CET.
The programme runs across eight partners in Europe, Africa and Asia. You start in Germany and Norway, then pick your own mobility path.
EMMIR is a joint master’s degree that studies migration from several continents at once. It is funded under the EU’s Erasmus Mundus programme, which is why a small number of students receive a full scholarship.
The consortium has eight full partners: the University of Oldenburg (Germany), the University of Stavanger (Norway), the University of Nova Gorica (Slovenia), Charles University (Czechia), the University of Ghana, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (Uganda), the University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa) and the Mahanirban Calcutta Research Group (India).
The four semesters follow a set rhythm. The whole cohort starts together, studying in Oldenburg and Stavanger. After that, students choose their own mobility from the eight partners. The fourth semester covers an internship and the master’s thesis.
EMMIR says scholarships go to the top-scoring applicants. It does not publish the number of scholarships for Edition 14, and it describes them as very limited.
What Will You Do?
- Study migration theory, intercultural relations and research methods with a shared cohort in Oldenburg and Stavanger.
- Choose your own mobility path among the partner institutions.
- Complete an internship in the fourth semester.
- Write a master’s thesis on a migration topic.
Why the EMMIR Erasmus Mundus Scholarship stands out
Many migration programmes are taught from a single European campus. EMMIR puts African and Asian partners inside the consortium, so your fieldwork and supervision can happen outside Europe too.
