1. The “Zero” Entry Charge for Queen’s Commonwealth Writing Competition
- The Fee: £0. It is 100% free to enter.
- Warning: If any site asks for a “review fee” or “registration deposit,” it is a scam. The Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) never charges for submissions.
2. The “Hidden” Realities of the London Trip
The “Fully Funded” trip is the ultimate prize, but it is not a participation award.
- Regional Selection: For 2026, the RCS has moved to a regional model. One winner is selected from each of the five Commonwealth regions (Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe, and the Pacific). From these five, one Overall Winner is chosen.
- The Coverage: The trip typically includes round-trip airfare, shared accommodation, and a curated week of cultural and educational activities in London.
- The “Guardian” Cost: Winners are 18 or under. While the RCS provides high-level supervision, if a parent or guardian wishes to accompany the winner, their travel and accommodation costs are often not covered and must be funded privately.
- Visa Fees: The cost of the UK Standard Visitor Visa is generally the responsibility of the winner. The RCS provides the necessary invitation letters, but the embassy fee is a personal expense.
3. Eligibility & Age Groups
- Age Limit: You must be 18 years or younger on April 30, 2026.
- Nationality: You must be a national or resident of a Commonwealth country or territory.
- Rebrand Note: There is no longer a separate “Junior” or “Senior” prize category for the London trip; all regional winners are chosen from the total pool of eligible youth.
4. 2026 Theme & Rules
- Theme: “Common Ground: Better Together”
- Word Limit: Strictly 1,000 words or less. Exceeding this limit results in automatic disqualification.
- Topics: You must choose one of the official questions regarding Sport, Environment, Culture, or Shared Identity.
- No AI: The RCS uses advanced detection. Wholly or partly AI-generated work is not accepted and will lead to disqualification.

Potenue Roadmap: 3 Rules to Win
- The “Authentic Voice” Rule: Judges prioritize stories that reflect your local geography and culture. Don’t try to sound “British”; sound like a proud member of your specific community.
- Formatting Matters: Do not include your personal details (name, school, age) inside the document. This info only goes on the online form to ensure an unbiased, “blind” judging process.
- The “Common Ground” Hook: 2026 is about connection. Your writing should focus on how people who are different can still find shared hope or shared solutions.
