McCall MacBain Scholarship

Demystifying the McCall MacBain Scholarship: A Legacy Full-Ride to McGill University

If you are aiming to fund a master’s or a professional degree in North America, you have likely run into massive financial walls. The McCall MacBain Scholarship at McGill University in Montréal, Canada, is a rare, elite global initiative built to solve exactly that.

Backed by a massive $200 million philanthropic endowment, this scholarship features absolutely zero hidden charges, zero application processing fees, and zero post-grad strings attached. It is a pure full-ride leadership scholarship that awards up to 30 full scholar seats and over 100 regional/finalist cash awards annually.

However, because it covers everything from international relocation to full tuition, the application path has mandatory structural loops, age brackets, and university deadlines that you must navigate flawlessly to be considered.

The 2026 Milestone Timeline (For Fall 2027 Entry)

  • Applications Open: June 1, 2026
  • International Applicant Deadline: August 19, 2026, at 4:00 PM ET
  • Canada & U.S. Applicant Deadline: September 23, 2026, at 4:00 PM ET
  • Regional & Final Interviews: October 2026 – March 2027
  • Program Term Begins: September 2027

Total Financial Benefits & Legacy Value

  • 100% Tuition & Fee Waiver: Full coverage of tuition and mandatory institutional fees for the entire normal duration of your eligible degree.
  • Living Allowance: A monthly stipend of $2,300 CAD during active academic terms to fully cover housing, food, and student living.
  • Relocation Package: A dedicated, one-time cash relocation grant to fund your physical move to Montréal.
  • Fully Funded Interview Travel: If you advance to the final selection round, the foundation covers all flights and hotel accommodations to bring you to Montréal for the final interview weekend.
  • The Tiered Safety Net (Partial Awards): Even if you miss out on the top 30 full-ride seats, the foundation awards Finalist and Regional Awards ranging from $5,000 CAD to $20,000 CAD to top runners-up.

Target Profiles & Strict Eligibility Criteria

To bypass the system’s baseline filters, you must meet one of these three academic/age brackets:

  1. The Current Student Track: You are on track to earn your first bachelor’s degree by August 2027.
  2. The Recent Graduate Track: You earned your first bachelor’s degree in the last 5 years (January 2021 or later).
  3. The Professional Transition Track: You earned your first bachelor’s degree more than 5 years ago, but were 30 years old or younger on January 1, 2026.

Can International Students Apply?

Yes! The McCall MacBain Scholarship is a globally open opportunity. Out of the 30 flagship full-ride slots awarded each cohort, 10 are explicitly reserved for international students from any country outside Canada and the U.S. The remaining 20 spots are allocated to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and refugees.

Eligible Programs & The “Separate Application” Catch

The scholarship supports over 150 different full-time, 45-credit-minimum master’s programs across Arts, Engineering, Business (MBA), Public Policy (MPP), Science, and Architecture, as well as 3 second-entry professional undergraduate degrees (Law [BCL/JD], Dentistry [DMD], and Medicine [MDCM]).

The McGill University Catch: Applying for the scholarship is 100% free, but winning the scholarship is entirely conditional upon your academic admission to McGill University. You must apply to the scholarship and separately apply to your desired degree program directly via McGill’s graduate portal. While the scholarship application costs nothing, McGill’s standard graduate application fee (approx. $130–$170 CAD) is not covered by the foundation and must be paid out of pocket.

Note: Executive master’s programs (such as the EMBA), part-time tracks, and PhDs are strictly ineligible for this scholarship.

The Real Structural Catch: University Endorsement

You cannot simply submit this application independently at the last minute if your current or graduate institution is a formal Outreach Partner of the McCall MacBain foundation.

If you are a student or recent alumnus of an institutional partner university, your application requires a formal institutional endorsement from your campus’s dean or awards committee before it can advance to the global selection tier. Check the official hub early to connect with your campus fellowship advisor and lock down your institutional deadline, which often falls weeks before the final August/September targets.
