Who can apply
You must meet all of the key eligibility requirements:
- Be an IEEE WIE Student Member.
- Have been a WIE member for at least two consecutive years.
- Be a full-time undergraduate student.
- Have completed at least two years of undergraduate study.
- Be studying in an engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university.
- Have a minimum 3.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent in your country’s grading system.
Important: Graduate Students Are Not Eligible

WIE’s FAQ confirms that both the Frances B. Hugle Scholarship and IEEE WIE International Scholarship are only available to undergraduate students.
What Do You Need to Submit?
Applicants must submit:
- A 1,000-word essay explaining why they want to pursue an engineering profession
- A 500-word essay explaining why they should receive the scholarship
- Two recommendation letters
- One academic reference, such as a professor or department chair
- One personal reference who can speak about the applicant’s character
Essays are reviewed for originality and plagiarism.

Do You Need to Be a Woman to Join IEEE WIE?
