UN SDG Action Awards 2026: Secure Your Fully Funded Trip to Rome

UN SDG Action Awards 2026 Edition: Categories & Deadlines

  • Changemaker Award: For individuals leading collective action.
  • Creativity Award: For initiatives using art and innovation to shift mindsets.
  • Resilience Award: For projects building community strength against climate or conflict.

1. Core Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the 2026 cycle, your entry must meet these four “Golden Rules”:

  • Global Reach: There are no geographical or national constraints. You can apply from any country in the world.
  • SDG Alignment: Your work must clearly advance one or more of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (e.g., No Poverty, Climate Action, Gender Equality).
  • Measurable Impact: You must be able to prove your results from the last three years. The UN prioritizes data and tangible outcomes over “ideas” or “plans.”
  • Scalability: The judges look for solutions that aren’t just working locally but have the potential to be replicated or scaled globally

2. Age Inclusivity by Category

  • Changemaker Award (Individuals): Open to people of all ages. While many applicants are “youth” (under 35), the award has historically honored activists of all generations who lead collective action.
  • Creativity & Resilience Awards (Initiatives): Since these categories are for teams, organizations, or movements, age is irrelevant. The eligibility depends on the organization’s registration or the initiative’s operational history.

3. The “Impact” Rule vs. The Age Rule

The UN prioritizes proven results over the last 3 years.

  • If you are a young applicant: You don’t need a PhD or 20 years of experience, but you do need to show that your work has already achieved measurable change (e.g., policy shifts, community engagement, or social innovation).
  • If you are a senior applicant: Your experience is valued, provided the initiative you are presenting is current and actively driving SDG progress today.

Potenue Roadmap: 3 Tips for a Winning Entry

  1. Prove the “Why Me?”: The UN looks for measurable results from the last three years. Don’t just talk about your mission; provide data (e.g., “Impacted 10,000 lives” or “Changed 2 local policies”).
  2. Visual Evidence: Use high-quality photos or a short video. Finalists are often featured on RAI (Italy’s national broadcaster), so they look for stories that are visually compelling.
  3. The “Human-Only” Essay: Like many 2026 programs, the UN is prioritizing authentic human voices. Avoid using AI to draft your impact story; they want to feel the passion of a real changemaker.
